Welcome to OLSWA
OLSWA is a unique university-level approach to the study of classic liberal arts. In support of the Church's renewal in education we form young minds and hearts to play a role in the revitalization of authentic culture.

c.schintgen_slide_sm.pngWhy should a person study at Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy? Perhaps you are considering your options in terms of higher education right now, and want to know what the Academy can offer you. Apart from the great spiritual benefits of living in a truly Catholic culture, there are two major reasons for coming to the Academy.

The first is our quality Catholic liberal arts education. Our integrated core curriculum is designed to give students an optimal intellectual formation. In our first year, we require a course in Logic to train students how to think rationally, and a course in Writing to teach them how to express themselves coherently and effectively. Our intensive Christian Doctrine course makes sure students know the fundamentals of the faith and how to defend it using reasoned arguments.

At the same time, Introduction to Philosophy gives students the tools they need to understand their faith intellectually, while History of Western Civilization puts Catholic teachings and culture in a broader historical context.

Three more courses in the first year round out the curriculum: Introduction to Scripture gives students a greater knowledge of God’s Word and the skills with which to interpret it. Latin I equips students with a grounding in the universal language of the Church; and Chorus exposes students to the rich musical heritage of the Church, and offers them the experience of preparing and singing music for the Liturgy.

Our second and third years build on this foundation by offering core courses in Literature, the Fine Arts, Science and Mathematics, along with further courses in Theology, Philosophy, History, and Languages. For the three-year program, students choose one of the following concentrations: Theology, Philosophy, Literature, or Liberal Arts—but they never specialize at the expense of the broader vision. Students invariably remark on the extent to which what they learn in one course complements what they are learning in another course; our program is like a giant jigsaw puzzle in which all the pieces interlock to form an intricate but highly integrated design.

The second consideration is a more practical one: at $8,235.00 Canadian a year (including tuition and room and board), the Academy offers an affordable education that is recognized at a growing number of established universities, making it possible to complete a degree at significantly less cost by doing several years with us and finishing at another university. Meanwhile, we are working hard to get to the stage at which we can seek provincial accreditation.

May God bless you in Our Lady Seat of Wisdom.
