Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy’s Don Bosco Drama Club is pleased to announce our fourth theatrical production, Robert Bolt’s A Man for All Seasons. The play will be performed in Barry’s Bay, Ontario, in St. Hedwig’s Parish Hall. Performances will be held on Thursday, February 9th, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, February 10th, at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, February 12th, at 2:00 p.m.

A Man for All Seasons is the compelling true story of St. Thomas More – lawyer, chancellor of England and friend of King Henry VIII. When asked to support the king’s unlawful marriage to Anne Boleyn, Thomas refused, preferring to remain true to his beliefs. Knowing that this choice could cost him not only his career but also his life, he did his best to escape through the loopholes of the law. He refused, however, to bend to the pressures around him, and was eventually wrongly charged with high treason.

A masterful work of literature and a powerful drama, A Man for All Seasons easily captures the mind and heart of anyone watching. The play was first performed in 1960, at the Globe Theatre, London. It was adapted twice for film, and the 1963 film starring Paul Scofield won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

This year’s OLSWA production is coming together through the efforts of many Academy students, in all areas – from costume and set design, to sound and lights, to acting. The cast is made up entirely of students, including Aaron Cripps (Common Man), Patrick Giguère (Sir Thomas More), Matthew Gunnarson (Richard Rich), Christian Ferraro (Duke of Norfolk), Angela Hardy (Alice More), Jenna Henry (Margaret More), Drew Sponagle (Cardinal Wolsey), Greg Aitken (Thomas Cromwell), Joseph Heppelle (Signor Chapuys), Patrick Craine (Chapuys’ Assistant), Anthony Burchat (William Roper), Daniel Millette (King Henry VIII), Margaret Beresford (a Woman), and Benjamin O’Brien (Archbishop Thomas Cranmer). The cast and crew hope that many people will come to view and enjoy this play, and that through it, they may be inspired, encouraged and strengthened.

Tickets are $7 in advance, or $10 at the door. They are available at Lorraine's Pharmasave in Barry's Bay, or by calling 1-877-369-6520, or 613-756-3082.

This production is co-sponsored by St. Hedwig’s Parish and Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy.
