Marissa Henry ('06)
![]() Two-Year Program Graduate
Combermere, ON
Marissa attended OLSWA for two years and has since been certified as a Personal Support Worker through Algonquin College. The eight-month program taught her how to care for people in various needs, such as stroke victims, those bedridden or in wheelchairs, or those who simply need assistance in eating or dressing. She writes: “Upon graduating I have worked with the elderly and dying in nursing homes, and have learned through this experience that caring for the sick is a great privilege. I am so grateful to be in a profession that truly helps those who are in need.
After being home-schooled, my two years at OLSWA prepared me for studying in a classroom; the continued studies in the Faith, literature and history helped me to be more aware of the world and how people respond to situations around them. The Academy gave me confidence that I could not only succeed in my program, but also live my Faith among those who have none, and as a PSW hopefully bring it to those I care for and to my fellow employees.”
