OLSWA Unveils New Logo
For quite some time now, OLSWA has been seeking to introduce a new logo that would more accurately portray the identity of our institution.

The inspiration for our new logo came from our Artist and Writer in Residence, Michael D. O’Brien. With the assistance of various graphic designers, including some of our staff and alumni, the image was created.

A description by Mr. O’Brien of its various elements is as follows:

Though our new emblem is simple in form, it is rich in theological meaning. First and foremost, Wisdom Himself is seated on Our Lady, and is at the very centre of the image, which reflects the centrality of Christ at OLSWA. Truth Himself extends his arms to the viewer—both as an offering on the cross, but also as an open invitation to pursue the Truth at OLSWA.

Our Lady is seated on a throne as Queen of Heaven and Earth, yet in her heart she is ever the humble “handmaid of the Lord,” serving Christ and his people, indeed all mankind, as Mother of the Redeemer. Thus, she is always focused on Christ. In the logo she gazes down at the Child she has brought into the world and gives to us.

It is her fiat, her total “yes” to the will of God, that enabled Wisdom Incarnate, the God-Man Jesus Christ to be born into this world and to fulfill his mission. And through her motherly intercession she continues to lead “every generation”  to him, ever presenting him to us as the greatest gift we can receive. Her entire life in this world and in eternity is devoted to helping us know her divine Son. She also gazes inward to the life of the Trinity in her soul, as she ponders these things in her heart.  She shows us what it is to be truly and fully human.

The white Cross behind Our Lady’s head reflects her submission to God’s authority and the Truth, her essential sub-missio at the foundation of his saving mission for mankind. From the very beginning, she, like her Son, was obedient in all things unto death. So, too, the mission of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy is to impart this same spirit of love for Truth through the vast heritage of our Faith’s spiritual and intellectual traditions, and our constant fidelity to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church.

The colours are based in the iconography that derives from both the Eastern and Western traditions of sacred art in the Body of Christ. The colour blue represents the Marian dimension and also symbolizes Holy Wisdom. White represents purity. Gold represents divinity—here, the divinity of her son. Red represents the path of suffering, martyrdom, death, sacrifice. OLSWA was built on sacrifice and it continues to grow through the generous help of so many people, not least of which are the visible and invisible sacrifices, the prayers and sufferings offered for our mission.

The logo’s words Sedes Sapientiae are Latin for "Seat of Wisdom," a title of Our Lady found in the Litany of Loreto, and her title as patroness of our school. The words Veritas Vos Liberabit are the Latin for OLSWA’s motto: “The Truth will set you free” (John 8: 32).

Our Lady Seat of Wisdom, make us fruitful for many souls in this new springtime of hope, and for eternity!
