The Cardinal Newman Society has launched a new edition of the Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College, and once again Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy is featured as “an option worth serious consideration.” The Newman Guide is a free online resource of the Cardinal Newman Society, designed to aid Catholic high-school students and their families who are seeking authentic Catholic higher education.
OLSWA is featured with 27 other Catholic colleges world-wide that are noted for their strong Catholic identity both in the classroom and on campus. OLSWA is honoured to be one of the only two Canadian schools—along with Redeemer Pacific College of Trinity Western University in B.C.—to be highlighted in the guide and the only Canadian institution offering a full Catholic liberal arts program.
The guide’s various profiles include information on academics, residence life, student activities and spiritual life. In addition, each school has provided answers to a comprehensive questionnaire on academics, student life and institutional governance.
In the Cardinal Newman Society press release announcing the release of the guide, President Patrick J. Reilly noted: “It is not enough that our Catholic sons and daughters survive college with their faith intact. Catholic college graduates should be wise, pure, and ready to serve with distinction in any career and vocation. The colleges and universities in The Newman Guide provide this preparation for life.”
OLSWA is honoured to be a part of this vision.
In the guide’s profile on OLSWA, it presents the following “Bottom Line”:
Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy is an affordable yet high-quality option for faithful Catholics. This small institution, committed to its motto of Veritas vos Liberabit (“The Truth will set you free”), provides a wonderful curriculum at a very low cost.
The Academy can help students get acclimated to college life and strengthen their faith before moving on to another solid Catholic college to finish their studies, but we hope the Academy is soon recognized as a full college, able to award bachelor’s degrees. The promise of this institution is enhanced by the beauty of studying in the scenic Ontario valley. It’s an option worth serious consideration.
Along with the new edition of the guide, the Cardinal Newman Society also published a companion magazine for Catholic high-school students and their families titled My Future, My Faith. This full-colour magazine features aids in the college search as well as the transition to college education and campus life. Articles include “Why Choose a Catholic College?” and “Fidelity Matters: Catholic Colleges Are Not All the Same.” Other themes explore how to write an exceptional application essay, strategies for sustaining and growing in your faith on campus, and suggested rules for campus dating.
