On Friday, April 17th, 2009, friends and supporters of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy were invited to join together in celebration and thanksgiving at the Fundraising Gala Dinner. The event provided an excellent opportunity for the entire OLSWA community to spend a wonderful evening together in fellowship, while also fundraising for the Academy.
Fr. Holly, Dr. Warner, Archbishop Prendergast, and Bishop Mulhall enjoying the evening
The evening began at St. Columbkille Cathedral in Pembroke, with the celebration of Holy Mass by His Grace Archbishop Terrence Prendergast, S.J., of the Ottawa archdiocese. His Excellency Bishop Michael Mulhall was also in attendance, along with many priests and deacons. Maestro Uwe Liefländer of the Sacred Music Society and his OLSWA choir provided beautiful music that truly emphasized the glory of the Resurrected Christ. Following Mass, guests relocated from the Cathedral to Germania Hall for the dinner and reception, where they were greeted and ushered by current OLSWA students. After having the opportunity to socialize over drinks and hors d'oeuvres, guests were invited to be seated for a delicious meal and dessert.
Following the meal, guests were privileged to hear His Grace Archbishop Prendergast deliver the keynote address. His Grace spoke about the new wave of evangelization among the youth, and the importance of the community supporting institutions such as OLSWA in the fostering of this new evangelization. He said “There is something In his discussion of the parallels between the new evangelization and the life of St. Paul, His Grace touched upon the subject of Christian charity and stewardship: “We imagine that we live in a world of scarcity, while God lives in a world of abundance. We are invited into it, but we must first emulate the humility of God Incarnate and empty ourselves.. Everything we have is a blessing of God, and the nature of the gift is to continue to grow well tended, and produce.” He went on to say that “OLSWA is worthy of support, a worthy cause that reflects the Christian way of thought and life, as we see reflected in the curriculum.” The rest of the evening involved a presentation on student life given by OLSWA students Elizabeth Enright and John Espadero, as well as comments from OLSWA president Dr. David Warner. By popular demand, His Excellency Bishop Mulhall addressed the community, thanked them, and said the closing prayer. Maestro Liefländer and the choir then provided more music for the enjoyment of the guests.
