Congratulations to OLSWA professor Dr. David Beresford, who is the new editor of Catholic Insight.  Founded in 1993 by Fr. Alphonse de Valk, C.S.B., Catholic Insight magazine is a Canadian publication dedicated to looking at social trends, politics and culture from a Catholic perspective.  As Dr. Beresford explains, its purpose is to edify and encourage Catholics, and to evangelize non-Catholics.  

Over the past ten years, Dr. Beresford has been a frequent contributor to Catholic Insight, and also writes for Gilbert Magazine of the American Chesterton Society.  Dr. Beresford teaches Biology at OLSWA and at Trent University.

Reflecting on what he hopes to bring to his new position as editor, Dr. Beresford comments: “Teaching has allowed me to discover what the current needs are of young Catholics, what questions they have, challenges they face, and how to present the faith to them in a meaningful way.  Most importantly, teaching and writing at OLSWA and elsewhere has shown me that modern youth want authentic teaching on the liturgy, have a profound dedication to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Our Lady, and the Holy Father.  In spite of what we are told by the aged baby boomers who pass themselves off as self-appointed experts, young Catholics in university in Canada and the US have little time and less patience for so called modern or relevant catecheses, watered down teaching, and what are euphemistically called up-to-date liturgies.”

The staff and students at Our Lady Seat of Wisdom offer Dr. Beresford congratulations and best wishes in this new responsibility, and look forward to seeing the magazine continue to flourish under his leadership.
