Construction of New Residence Underway |
|
OLSWA’s newest residence is going up, and is on-schedule to be available for the Fall Semester. Under the leadership of James Hanlon, the Academy’s Director of Construction, the highly energy efficient duplex is making rapid progress, despite a delayed start due to an April snowstorm. The storm dumped a heavy blanket of wet snow, making deliveries to the site impossible for several days.
Father Chris Shalla of St. Hedwig’s Parish blessed the foundations, and will bless the building when it is completed. Situated on a lot with a magnificent view of Lake Kamaniskeg, the residence is a convenient walk away from the Academy’s campus. One striking feature of its design is the use of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS) for the exterior walls, which have the advantage of a much higher insulation value while greatly minimizing air leaks. The SIPS can be seen in the photos below.
OLSWA supporters can be pleased by the fact that the work is being done to the highest standards of care and workmanship, and at the same time as economically as possible. Labor and materials will cost around $350,000. Your donation to OLSWA will be greatly appreciated and will help fund this building, and our other work.
